Dragonfly class have been reading the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ this week. The children participated in a role play based on the book, retold the story and even went on our very own bear hunt. We followed the bear footprints around the school and eventually found the fluffy bear underneath the oak tree.
PE with Mr Bourne
The children have been having lots of fun working on their movement skills with Mr Bourne. This week they have been practicing skipping, jumping and hopping.
The children have been working hard in maths. They have been calculating addition and subtraction sums using concrete materials such as cubes to help them.
Dragonfly class planted bulbs this week. Each child took it in turn to fill each planter with soil and insert their bulb. Then we added water to make sure that the soil was sufficiently moist to enable the best growing environment for our lovely plants. We can’t wait to check on them in February when they should be starting to bloom.
Pete the Poet
The children had an amazing time with Pete the Poet. They enjoyed learning all about poetry through music, costume and props. It was super fun for the children to get dressed up and get creative whilst also learning about other cultures.
In maths the children have been learning all about length and height and how we can measure objects by using standard and non-standard means. This week the children measured and recorded the length of a variety of classroom objects using cubes.
This week the children have been learning all about the different animal groups. They were able to identify which animals belong to each animal group based on certain characteristics.
Dragonfly class have been looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. The children enjoyed sorting various everyday objects into the correct 3D shape.
This week we have been basing our English work around Bonfire Night. The children wrote some amazing descriptions of fireworks using lots of interesting adjectives and wrote some fantastic firework safety rules. We also learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up and performing a role play of the historical event.
The children had a lot of fun today programming the bee bots to perform simple routes using algorithms. Some groups then went on to design their own route for the bee bots to follow with an algorithm to match.
